裴德思（Thorsten J Pattberg）、1977年生、德国哈姆市人、作家、语言学者、文化评论家。
2007年毕业于英国爱丁堡大学东亚研究院，取得硕士学位。2003年曾到上海复旦大学进修。2007年考入中国北京大学博士研究生、2008年赴日本东京大学史料编纂所访学、2010年赴美国哈佛大学梵文和印度学系访学、2012年1月北京大学外语学院世界文学研究所博士研究生毕业，取得博士学位，博士论文为《德国语境中的中国圣人概念》。
2012年12月起任北京大学高等人文研究院研究员。
曾撰写并出版了大量有关发展全球性语言的文章，提倡翻译的终结。近年来，积极推动儒家思想的传播，特别是倡议在世界应广泛使用中华文明的核心词。
出版过6本专著、以及论文20余篇，大部分是关于中西方比较文化，或是关于论述如何诠释中国文化中的“圣人”、“君子”、“龙”等概念。同时也经常在海内外各大报章杂志上发表文章，如中国日报、上海日报、亚洲时报、德国时报、日本时报、韩国先驱报等。
主要理论专著有《The East-West dichotomy》、《Shengren》、《Inside Peking University》等。主要代表论文有《怎么翻译中华文明的核心词》、《翻译的结束》，《Language hegemony – It’s shengren, stupid!》、《Long into the West’s dragon business》、《Chinese Concepts Lost in Translation》等。
2013年11月出版了《东风与西风: 一个德国人眼中的中西方文化(英文版)》（外文出版社）。与中国国家汉办和外文出版社合作的新书《21世纪中文术语的崛起》即将出版。
Dr. Thorsten J. Pattberg (裴德思 Pei Desi) is a German writer, linguist, and cultural critic.
He has written and published extensively about Global language, the Competition for terminologies, and the End of translation. He is also active in promoting Confucianism, in particular Chinese terminologies, on a global scale.
He attended Edinburgh University, Fudan University, Tokyo University, and Harvard University, and earned his doctorate degree from The Institute of World Literature at Peking University. He studied under the guiding stars of Ji Xianlin, Gu Zhengkun, and Tu Weiming, whom he considers his spiritual masters.
Dr. Pattberg is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia, University of Tokyo; and a former Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies, Peking University. He is the author of six monographs, including ‘The East-West dichotomy,’ ‘Shengren,’ ‘Holy Confucius,’ and ‘Inside Peking University,’ and some of his representative articles are ‘Language hegemony – It’s shengren, stupid!,’ ‘Long into the West’s dragon business,’ ‘China: Lost in Translation,’ and ‘The end of translation.’
His latest book project, ‘Knowledge is a Polyglot’, is funded by Hanban and will be published in English and Chinese by Foreign Language Press in 2015/16.
