BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The 15th Chinese classic reading contest was held in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, attracting many Chinese, Malaysian and Indian pupils.

Contestants read aloud ancient Chinese classics including "The Great Learning", "The Doctrine of Mean", "The Analects of Confucius", "Disciples Regulation", "Poetry of the Tang Dynasty", "Hundreds of Book of Filial Piety".

After fierce competition, 178 contestants were granted titles of the "doctor scholar" and the "master scholar". During the awarding ceremony, all the award-winner went pass the "Bridge of Scholars" and went on a parade with specially-made scholar uniforms on.

Ancient Chinese classics are created and refined by scholars of generations, and passed on through time. They are like music, even if students do not understand them now, they should recite them, because they help students to maintain physical and mental health, and to purify the heart, said President of Malaysia Chinese Culture Association.

An official of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia said such activities are meaningful for Chinese traditional culture to develop overseas.
